Hurricane Season Tax Holidays 2025 edition
If you’ve been holding off on buying flashlights, batteries, or that portable generator because you’re waiting for the annual Hurricane Prep Tax Holiday—well, we’ve got good news and a little hurry-up-and-wait.
As of today, the 2025 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday hasn’t officially been passed yet. Yup, we’re still in legislative limbo. But before you roll your eyes and shout “Come on, Tallahassee!” into the wind, here’s the bright side: Governor DeSantis says it’s coming. In fact, he promised that “one way or another, we are going to get you tax-free disaster preparedness.” Bold words, Gov. We’re holding you to it.
If you’re new to Florida or forgot how this works, this tax holiday usually happens twice a year—once in early June and again in late August—giving us all a chance to stock up on storm essentials without paying sales tax.
That means discounts (hello savings!) on things like:
Portable generators
Flashlights and batteries
Tarps and tie-down kits
Coolers, power banks, even pet food
In 2024, the first window ran from June 1–14 and the second from August 24–September 6. So if history repeats itself (and let’s be honest, it usually does in Florida storm season), we’ll likely see similar dates once the bill is officially passed.
💡Pro Tip: Just because the tax break isn’t live yet doesn’t mean you should wait to get prepared. Storm season is already here, and scrambling for D-batteries during a hurricane watch is not a good time. Beat the rush, and if the tax holiday kicks in later—treat yourself to some hurricane snacks with the savings.
We’ll keep an eye on the legislation and send out an update as soon as it’s official. Until then, stock smart, stay safe, and as always, follow Denis Phillips’ Rule #7: Don’t freak out… unless he does.
🌀 We'll have the full list of tax-free items once it’s approved.
